Phàm chậu cảnh trồng khiến người có cảm giác thanh thoát và nho nhã đều có thể coi là cây Văn nhân. Rất nhiều người ngộ nhận rằng cây Văn nhân là loại hình cây thế. Thực ra không phải như vậy, mà là vào thời Minh Trị ở Nhật bản, giới văn nhân rất đỗi yêu thích một loại cây mảnh khảnh mà họ đặt tên là như thế.

Cây dáng nhân văn
Đây là kiểu gọi mang tính cảm hứng khi nhìn tư thế của cây trồng chậu mà thôi. Cách cảm thụ không bị ảnh hưởng ở hình thức, không quá chứ trọng bởi dáng cây.
Cây cảnh này có hình thế thanh thoát mà nho nhã, thân cây mảnh khảnh ít cành, người xem cảm thấy được vẻ thanh thoát, thấy được vẻ gân guốc, lại vừa có vẻ từng trải tháng năm.

Ưu điểm của cây Văn Nhân ở chỗ, thân cây khúc khuỷu, tán cành không bị câu thúc, có một vẻ tự do không gò bó của hình dáng. Hầu hết cây đều mảnh khảnh một cách hài hòa khiến con người ta, ai ai nhìn vào đều thấy rõ vẻ trầm tĩnh toát ra nhờ vào thân cây mảnh, lá cây mềm mại hài hòa. Nếu để cành tán nhiều lên sẽ làm cho hiệu quả trái ngược. Cần biết chọn cây giống mềm mại, dáng cây phù hợp, càng ít cành càng tốt.
Thân cây để hơi cao, cho ra vẻ điềm tĩnh vừng vàng, đồng thừi chú ý tạo cho rễ trồi lên mặt đát ở một mức độ vừa phải.
