Một thanh niên hỏi một ông lão giàu có làm giàu bằng cách nào. Ông lão vuốt chiếc áo vest sang trọng của mình và kể:
- Con trai à, đó là vào năm 1932, một thời kỳ khốn khó trong lịch sử, lão chỉ còn một xu cuối cùng trong túi. Lão bỏ ra mua một quả táo, dành cả ngày để lau cho nó bóng lên và vào cuối ngày, lão bán quả táo lấy 10 xu.

Sáng hôm sau, lão đầu tư số tiền trên mua hai quả táo, lau chúng cho bóng và bán chúng lúc 5 giờ chiều được 20 xu. Lão tiếp tục cách kinh doanh này trong một tháng và cuối cùng tích lũy được một tài sản trị giá 1 đôla 37 xu.

Sau đó cha vợ lão qua đời và để lại cho vợ chồng lão 2 triệu đôla.
