Cây chuối hoàng yến có màu sắc rất đặc biệt dọc theo sống giữa của lá màu vàng, tiếp đến là đường màu xám xanh và cuối cùng là màu xanh đậm trên viền của lá, có tác dụng rất tốt trang trí trong những không gian nội thất nhiều vật dụng kim loại, màu sáng.

Cây chuối Hoàng yến có nguồn gốc từ Châu Âu, cây mọc thành bụi, ưa bóng râm mát, không chịu được nắng to. Cây rậm rạp, lá hình ngọn giáo, thân cây ngắn. Cây cao từ 30 – 40cm, lá màu xanh bóng hoặc đốm đỏ, trắng, mặt sau màu đỏ thẫm. Các đốm lớn màu vàng hay trắng chiếm phần lớn diện tích. Cụm hoa trên cuống lá chung ngắn, có mo màu trắng một ít xanh, bông mo màu vàng nhạt. Quả một hạt. Dễ dàng trồng cây bằng chồi thân, tách bụi.

Chuối hoàng yến phù hợp với không khí ấm áp và độ ẩm liên tục ở một vị trí bóng râm.
Cây cần rất nhiều nước vào mùa hè, nhưng tưới nước cẩn thận trong mùa đông với nhiệt độ tối thiểu là 13 độ C (55 độ F).
