Nếu vô tình nếm thử hay hít phải hương hoa “hơi thở của quỷ” sẽ rơi vào trạng thái vô thức và có thể làm theo sự sai khiến của người khác. Nhưng người ta lại vô tình trồng cây "hơi thở của quỷ" khắp mọi nơi như một loại cây cảnh xinh đẹp để trang trí ngoại thất sân vườn mà không hề biết bản chất thật sự của chúng. Đã có rất nhiều nghiên cứu khoa học khẳng định về tác động thần bí của loại cây này đến sức khỏe của con người.

Cây “hơi thở của quỷ” có nguồn gốc từ Mexico, Peru và được trồng tại Đà Lạt từ rất lâu. Cây hơi thở của quỷ còn có tên là loài cây Borrachero, cây hoa loa kèn, hoa kèn của thiên thần…

Đặc điểm cây hơi thở của quỷ:

Loài cây nhỡ, khỏe, hóa gỗ có vỏ xám, cành lá thường thòng xuống. Lá mọc so le, phiến có dạng như lá thuốc lá. Hoa mọc thòng xuống, to, đơn độc hay xếp thành từng đôi, màu trắng, dài 25-30 cm, đường kính 1-1,5 cm, nhị đính trên ống tràng có bao phấn dính nhau.

Cây “hơi thở của quỷ” có thể nhân giống rất đơn giản bằng cách giâm cành hay nó có thể tự mọc khi quả khô rụng xuống.

Trong cây hơi thở của quỷ có chứa chất scopolamine - một loại độc dược có khả năng gây ảo giác, khi chất độc này đi vào cơ thể, chúng sẽ nhanh chóng đưa nạn nhân vào trạng thái vô thức.

Nạn nhân có thể sẽ nghe, làm theo lời người đối diện một cách vô thức và khi hồi tỉnh, họ sẽ không nhớ những gì mình đã làm trước đó.

Thần bí và nguy hiểm

Kết quả phân tích, chiết xuất cho thấy trong hoa của loài cây này có chứa chất gây ảo giác scopolamine. Chỉ cần uống một giọt dịch chất chiết xuất từ chất scopolamine của hoa “hơi thở của quỷ”, một người khỏe mạnh có thể bị mất trí nhớ và mất tri giác tạm thời.

Ông Nguyễn Bá Hy, Giám đốc Bệnh viện Đa khoa Lâm Đồng, cho biết năm 2013, bệnh viện tiếp nhận 4 người từ chùa Kỳ Quang (huyện Đức Trọng, Lâm Đồng) chuyển đến với triệu chứng nghi bị ngộ độc. Nguyên nhân vì thấy hoa “hơi thở của quỷ” đẹp nên một người đã hái về để nấu lẩu. Chưa đầy 5 phút sau khi ăn, 4 người đều có triệu chứng giống nhau như không kiểm soát được hành vi, la hét, nói năng lảm nhảm, khó tiểu, nhịp tim nhanh...

Sau khi cấp cứu những bệnh nhân trên, các bác sĩ biết được những người này đã trúng một loại độc dược có khả năng gây ảo giác. Loại độc này chính là chất scopolamine có trong hoa “hơi thở của quỷ” ở Đà Lạt.

Khi chất độc này đi vào cơ thể, chúng sẽ nhanh chóng đưa nạn nhân vào trạng thái vô thức. Nạn nhân có thể sẽ nghe, làm theo lời người đối diện một cách vô thức và khi hồi tỉnh, họ sẽ không nhớ những gì mình đã làm trước đó.

Từng chứng kiến tác động của loài hoa này, bà Trần Thị Mai (ngụ đường Phù Đổng Thiên Vương, phường 8, Đà Lạt) kể nhà bà có đứa cháu ngoại từ xa về thăm đã ra vườn bứt những bông hoa trên để chơi đồ hàng. Không may, cháu nhỏ đã hít hương hoa này và bỏ vào miệng nhấm nháp thử. Sau đó, cả nhà hoảng hốt phát hiện cháu nói năng huyên thuyên, mơ màng, ngơ ngác nên gia đình phải vội đưa vào bệnh viện cấp cứu.

Loài hoa “hơi thở của quỷ” được trồng quá nhiều ở Đà Lạt. Sẽ rất nguy hiểm nếu người nào không biết, đặc biệt là những du khách, trẻ em đến Đà Lạt nếu vô tình nếm thử hay hít phải hương hoa này.

Tội phạm thường sử dụng

Theo nhiều tài liệu, chiết xuất scopolamine từ cây hoa loa kèn đã được một số cá nhân, tổ chức sử dụng trong nghiên cứu, phục vụ khoa học từ thế kỷ XIX. Năm 1880, scopolamine đã được phát hiện bởi nhà khoa học người Đức Albert Ladenburg.

Với thuộc tính dễ tan trong nước, khó bị phát hiện, bọn tội phạm đã sử dụng scopolamine để pha vào nước uống, trộn với đồ ăn để thôi miên, điều khiển người khác làm theo ý mình.

Loài hoa “hơi thở của quỷ” trên đất Đà Lạt

Hiện nay, loài hoa này không chỉ được trồng trên các tuyến đường nội thành Đà Lạt mà còn trồng dày đặc trong các khuôn viên của những ngôi nhà, quán cà phê sân vườn... Theo đại diện Công ty Quản lý Công trình đô thị Đà Lạt, loài hoa này đẹp và dễ trồng nên thời gian qua, công ty đã trồng trên một số tuyến đường ở Đà Lạt nhằm tạo cảnh quan đô thị.
